The Event

RÖSSING MARATHON

MY HEALTH, MY RIGHT!

The 2019 Rössing Marathon is taking place on Saturday, 9 February 2019, at the NEW start/finish venue:  PRO-ED AKADEMIE SPORTS FIELDS, BAOBAB AVENUE, OCEAN VIEW, SWAKOPMUND. 

  • 42.2km Marathon - starts at 7.00 - cut-off at 12.00 (noon) - prize-giving at 12.30
  • 21.1km Marathon - starts at 7.00 - cut-off at 10.00 - prize giving at 12.30
  • 10km Run - starts at 7.30 - cut-off at 9.30 - prize giving at 10.00

The first 250 paid-up entries (proof of payment must be provided) get a branded training vest and buff with your race pack. 
Please take note that entry tickets are non-refundable.

There's also the 10km Relay at 7.30 (for Erongo Uranium companies) and the 5km Fun Walk at 9.30 (register at the venue between 8.00 and 9.00 on the day).

Important Registration Information

  • Race packs must be collected at the race venue from 16.00 to 20.00 on Friday, 8 February 2019.
  • Make sure to take along your ID, passport, birth certificate or company card (Erongo uranium companies for the 10km Relay) when collecting your race pack.
  • Late registration will take place at the race venue from 16.00 to 20.00 on Friday, 8 February 2019. Late entries are charged at a higher price, thus an extra N$ 20 on top of the actaul entry fee.
  • The 5km Fun Walk registration will take place at the race venue from 8.00 to 9.00 on Saturday, 9 February 2019.

Rules & Regulations

  1. Eligibility to participate

    THE FOLLOWING AGE RESTRICTIONS APPLY TO ROAD RUNNING IN NAMIBIA:
    1.1. Minimum age to participate in a road race is 12 years
    1.2. Under age 14 - maximum 10km
    1.3. 14-15 years - maximum 15km
    1.4. 16-19 years - maximum 32km
    1.5. Entrants for the full marathon must have turned 20 years of age, and for the half marathon 16 years of age, by the day of the race.
    1.6. Ages shall be taken as being the age of the athlete on the day of the race.

  2. One race number will be provided by the organisers and must be worn on the front of the running vest (chest).

  3. The official cut-off time for the marathon will be five (5) hours, or 12:00. The official cut-off time for the 21km run is three (3) hours. The official cut-off time for the 10km run is two (2) hours.

  4. Traffic rules are to be strictly adhered to and the instructions of Traffic Officials and Marshals must be obeyed without question.

  5. Athletes will run/walk in single file on the RIGHT hand side of the road within the municipal area of Swakopmund, unless otherwise instructed by an official - and on the RIGHT hand side of the road on the open roads unless otherwise instructed by an official.

  6. Refreshment stations will be placed along the route at intervals of approximately three kilometres.

  7. Distance markers will be placed at approximately three kilometre intervals.

  8. Any objection or appeal must be lodged with the race director not later than thirty minutes after the end of the race together with a fee of N$200. If the objection is upheld, the fee will be refunded. The decision of the Jury of Appeal will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Waiver

I declare that all information supplied by my is true and correct. I am in good health to enter and participate in the Rössing Marathon. I know that running a road race is potentially hazardous. I should not run unless I am medically fit, able and properly trained. I agree to abide by any decisions of a race official relative to my ability and to safely complete the run. Having read this waiver and knowing these facts and in consideration of your accepting my entry, I for myself and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, waive and release the Swakop Striders, the town of Swakopmund, Namibia, Rössing Uranium Limited and all other sponsors, their representatives and successors from all claims or liabilities of any kind arising out of my participating in this event, even if that liability arises out of negligence or carelessness on the part of the persons/entities named in this waiver. From time to time our sponsors may want to use the information provided by me in this entry form to communicate details about their operations. I am willing to have my information used for this purpose. I also grant permission to use my name, race information and photographs, videotapes, broadcasts and telecasts in which I may appear, free of charge. By signing here I also acknowledge that I read and understand the RULES AND REGULATIONS listed in this entry form.
