Safer, healthier, more resilient children, families and communities in namibia.
This is the heartbeat of Lifeline/Childline Namibia; a registered Welfare Organisation and NGO based in Windhoek. From their busy counselling center in the capital, a group of dedicated and equipped volunteers man the 116 Child helpline and the 106 Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Helpline; tirelessly working on a 14 hours per day 365 days per year basis!
Just a phone call away
We provide different telephone, sms and online counselling services for the whole of Namibia as well as face to face counselling services in Windhoek, including voluntary testing and counselling training.
A crisis line (061-232221) - still in operation today, was set up in 1980, and continues to provide help and comfort to those calling in. Furthermore we complement our counselling services with community-based activities to promote Social Behaviour Change and child protection.
We depend on the support from international donor agencies, as well as local entities and our own fundraising and income-generating efforts.
Counselling Saves Lives!
LifeLine/ChildLine Namibia currently runs the only national helpline-based counselling service in Namibia.
116 Child HelpLine
LL/CL provides a toll-free service mainly focusing on assisting children dealing with emotional distress, abuse, educational and behavioural problems as well as family issues. This is imperative to LL/CL’s counselling services, because it is the organisation’s core business. Without it there would be very limited services designed for children.
To keep this toll free line for all the children of Namibia, we need your help!
In addition to the HelpLines ensuring that children are safe, the counselling centre also does face-to-face counselling and school’s outreach programmes.
106 Gender-Based Violence HelpLine
Aims to assist those who are in need of help when found in a GBV-related situation. This is also a toll-free service available across Namibia. In partnership with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), this line will also be utilized as a key entry point for reporting Human Trafficking in the near future.
Uitani ChildLine Radio
A radio service for children recorded by children - one of its kind in Namibia! This unique radio service has been in existence since 2005.
On a weekly basis up to 20 children arrives at the little studio on the upper level of LifeLine/ChildLine Namibia’s Headquarters in Windhoek to discuss and record issues that concern children all over the country.
The initiative is based on the principles of child participation, children’s rights and child protection. The uniqueness of this endeavor cannot be overlooked especially the immeasurable impact through continuous awareness raising and reaching communities in often unreachable locations.
Our dream for Uitani
