The Trauma Healing Network is a registered Welfare Organization in Namibia (WO 459). We focus on both the emotional wellbeing and the building of resilience amongst traumatized people in the community. The aim is to bring healing and teach people how to cope with current trauma or trauma in the future.
Our dream is to have trained facilitators throughout Namibia which can support the community in times of trauma. Our facilitators know everything about our Colour Me HealedTM program and can help others deal with the effects of trauma.
why trauma healing?
We believe this is necessary because the emotional pain and suffering that people in our communities experience is growing.
This is due to the increase in life-altering events like road accidents; violence in intimate relationships (Gender Based Violence); suicide; rape; HIV/AIDS; the death of loved ones and divorce. Research has found that adults and children are generally not well equipped from childhood with the necessary coping skills to process trauma.
They are often struggling to carry on with their lives after a traumatic experience. As a result the effects of trauma influences their daily lives at home, at work, at school and especially in relationships. Many traumatised people in Namibia often do not receive effective help because health services are not readily available and often not affordable to everyone either.
This is what motivates the Trauma Healing Network to reach out to the people of Namibia and to bring healing and teach them skills in order to handle trauma more effectively!
- Healing Retreat: A personal journey in which you look back on your life and reflect how trauma has affected your life. You’ll learn all about emotions and coping and how to be resilient for the future.
- Facilitators Training: During this 4-day training you will learn basic counselling skills; the material of the Colour Me HealedTM training and groupwork. Part of the training is a one-year mentoring to help you set up the Trauma Healing Group. As a facilitator you can help others in your community by setting up a Trauma Healing Group.
- Pastoral Care Course: This 3-day course is a unique training for pastors or pastoral caregivers, elders or other people working with people in the church. You will learn more about Trauma and how to help people who are traumatized.
"The Healing Retreat has given me a new perspective on trauma and hearing other people’s stories. It was a positive experience; the interactive session strayed from pushing people to open up. The facilitator as well as the group were very supportive and shared emotions. It has left a deep impression on me and I want to share this knowledge and training with others! I can apply this knowledge in my family and work life. It’s ok to feel hurt - I’m not alone, and there is always hope." (Healing Retreat participant, Swakopmund, April 2017)
"I learned a lot of things, the training helped me process a couple of wounds and assess where I`m now in life. Even though I’m still a little shy I do feel confident in being able to help others." (Healing Retreat participant, Otjiwarongo, May 2017)
